Other People’s Impact On Me

 

Choose entries from below to answer in your journal. I will tell you how many you will need. Aim for two sides of a journal page for your response. Create a thesis or dominant impression and delve into personal details that will allow your reader to understand how this person has influenced you. Be sure to provide a title for each entry.

 

  1. Good Teacher. Describe a teacher or coach who has had a positive influence on you. Provide specific details/events that illustrate this influence.
  2. Bad Teacher. Describe a teacher or coach who has had a negative influence on you. Provide specific details/events that illustrate this influence.
  3. Good Family. Describe a family member who has had a positive influence on you. Provide specific details/events that illustrate this influence.
  4. Bad Family. Describe a family member who has had a negative influence on you. Provide specific details/events that illustrate this influence.
  5. Stranger. Describe a time you had a brush with a stranger that left you thinking about something you might not otherwise have considered.
  6. Love Me. Describe a person you tried to impress. What did you do? How did it go? Did your attempts work?
  7. Peer Pressure. Describe a situation where you felt pressured to do something because your friend/s was/were doing it. Explain what it was, what happened, the outcome, and how you felt about it.
  8. Bully. Describe a time you bullied someone else. Why did you do it? How did it make you feel? Did you do it again? What impact did you have on the other person?
  9. Delusional Lunch. If you could have lunch with a famous character from history or fiction, who would it be and why? Explain why it is important for you to meet with this person. Include what you know and why you are intrigued. What might you ask this person? What would you like to learn?
  10. Ancestor Lunch. With what deceased family member would you like to be able to share lunch? What is it about this person that intrigues you? Explain why it is important for you to meet with this person. Include what you know and why you are intrigued. What might you ask this person? What would you like to learn?
  11. Superhero. Who was your childhood hero? What made this person/character special to you? Looking at this figure now, what characteristics can you identify that made this figure “heroic” in your eyes? How have you attempted to achieve these characteristics or how do you suppose your interest in this person has impacted you?
  12. Helping You. Describe a time you helped someone else and how this made you feel. Describe the incident(s) and how this was special for you. How did this impact you and the other person?
  13. Help Me. Describe a time you needed help and someone offered it. What was the incident? How did you feel receiving help? Describe how/if this impacted your relationship with the person.
  14. Best Friend. Describe your best friend. Why is he/she your best friend? Recall some formative experiences you had together that illustrate your bond.
  15. Enemy. Describe your worst enemy. How did this person become your enemy? How has this impacted your life? Would you like to change the situation?
  16. The Arts. What book, play, or film has impacted you? Explain. Use specifics from the work to illustrate how it touched you.
  17. Snob. Describe a time you thought you were better than someone else but later found out that you had misjudged the person. Explain what happened, how/what you learned, and how it impacted you.
  18. Worthless. Describe a time others treated you as if you were less of a person. What happened? How did you react? Did it have a lingering impact on you?
  19. Animal. Describe a bond you have had with an animal. Show how this animal possessed qualities that you respected. How did your contact with this animal make you a better person?
  20. Nature. Describe your relationship with nature or a particular moment in nature. How did your contact with nature make you a better person?
  21. Object. Describe how a material possession become an obsession – you had to have it and/or your worshiped it.
