Antigone Journal Prompts
100 points
I ask that you write ten (10) journal entries. Each journal entry should be at least
1-2 pages long. Each journal entry
should have a title (see below) and be labeled with the date. Each journal
entry should be neat. Each journal entry
should aim fro specifics.
Leave 2 pages blank after each entry as I will later ask you
to react to Antigone through the same
lens.
If all entries are completed neatly and with effort, you
will receive the full 100 points. Points
will be deducted for undeveloped, sloppy, or
irrelevant entries. I reserve the right not to count vague or lazy
entries.
- To Cheat or Not To Cheat? Your
parents put a lot of weight on your GPA.
There’s a big test coming up ion a subject that isn’t your
strongest. They want you to cheat
“because it’s not a big deal” as it’s not going to be your future job
subject. Will you cheat? Why or why
not?
- Stand Up. Describe a time you had
to stand up for someone or something and it wasn’t necessarily the easiest
choice. Explain the situation and what happened.
- Bow Down. Describe a time you were
frustrated because you felt as though you couldn’t do the right thing and
stand up for someone or something.
- Morals. What does it mean to be morally correct? Do you consider yourself to be morally
correct? Explain with specifics.
- Prove Your Love. Think about a loved
one whom you care about deeply. What are some ways you show your love for
this person? Think about what you
would and wouldn’t do for this person.
- Total Sacrifice. Would you
sacrifice your life for a loved one? Why or why not? Would you give up
everything you know for that person?
Why or why not?
- Respects. How would you feel if
you weren’t allowed to pay your respects to a loved one who was dead or
dying?

justified? Explain.

simply said you were sorry and a situation would have been better;
however, you chose not to offer an olive branch and the situation spiraled
out of control.
- Fate vs. Free Will. Do you believe
in Fate or Free Will? Is your
destiny pre-determined or are you in charge of your destiny by the choices
you make?

is an accurate picture of who you are? Explain.

conforming? How does that make you feel?
- No Parents. Your parents have
decided that you are old enough to run things and they’ve run off to sail
around the world, leaving you in charge of all the money, household
responsibilities, and of course, yourself. How will your behavior differ
from what it is when your parents are around? Why?
- Conscience
vs. Society Describe a time when you had to choose following
your heart or your conscience over what society expected you to do even
though it was a difficult road.
- Difficult
Decision. Describe a difficult decision
you had to make and why it was difficult.
What was the outcome?
- Outcast. Have you ever felt like an outcast? When? Why? How did you navigate through those
feelings?

difficulty. Consider how you might
have had a different outcome if you’d backed down and eaten Humble Pie.

Decisions. Have you ever made a decision too quickly that you later
realized was not a good one?
Explain the decision, how it impacted you, and what you would have
done differently if you knew then what you know now.
