Short Story Requirements

· Draw the reader in

o Catchy opener

o Dialogue

o Show action (don’t tell or moralize= show action of characters)

o POV clear (1^st person or third person)

· Good title: make it catchy!

· Byline below title (i.e., by Ms. Gokturk or by Chris Cuomo)

· Development of character(s) 3D

· Clear setting: we want to know where we are

· Some use of irony to make your point

· Use one tense! Present or past

· Address the theme of greed and/or curiosity

· Length: depends on how much you need to develop all these elements (probably no less than 3-4 pages double spaced; generally speaking, 5+ is the way to go!)

· Hand in ONE COPY double spaced and ONE COPY single spaced
