My Palette Has Eyes: The Food Critic (100 points)

YOUR TASK: Write a review about the meal you took notes on. Use vivid adjectives and phrases to describe your dining experience. The only requirement is that you follow the guidelines provided, and most of all, let us, your Schreiber audience taste your meal, good or bad!

GUIDELINES

• Write 850-1000 words in which you review a meal you ate

· Thesis: Your thesis is your position. It may be cumulative, meaning, it builds as you describe the experience or it is stated early on. Rave, pan, or mixed. This is your opinion.

· Sensory Imagery: Rely on the senses to paint the picture. Evaluate clearly using your senses. Use all five senses in your descriptions (see, hear, smell, touch, taste)

• Use similes to elaborate on your descriptions
• Use connotations where appropriate
• Create a dominant impression about the meal/place
• Describe the ambiance
• Include the costs

· Organization: Almost all reviews are structured chronologically, mimicking as best as possible the experience arriving, ordering, eating, paying, and decide on future returns. The description of the food should take up most of your word count.

• Describe the flavors for each
• Describe the presentation for each.
• Describe the house specialties

· Notables. Reviews may highlight any unusual aspects of the place, the chef, or history. Anything unusual on the menu? Any history to explain?

• Describe the portions
• Describe the service
• You may use I and you.
• Be careful with tense. Keep us moving with you.
• Your voice. Be authentic. Use your wit, personality, language. Show, don’t tell. Avoid LAZY adjectives (good, bad, boring, amazing, delicious, terrific, etc.) Minus 1 point for every generic adjective used!
