Letter to the Editor Assignment (25 points)

YOUR TASK: Write a letter to the editor for any publication you select. Your goal is to get published!

HOW TO:

1. Go online and read all the current articles from a publication of your choice. This could be a newspaper or a magazine. Read all the highlighted stories and be sure that they are current (from today or this week).
2. Choose one article that you would like to comment on. Either you disagree or agree with the article’s content or you were somehow personally touched by it. Check out http://www.schoolandstate.org/Handbook/sampleletters.htm you see the kinds of letters you might compose. Check out also http://www.scrapthecode.com/volunteer/LetterExamples.htm for more examples.
3. Go to the letters to the editor page of the publication you selected to read. Read several letters. Note their style and length. These will serve as your template.
4. Write your letter. Cite the article’s title, the author’s name, and the date it was published. Write your comments.
5. Submit your letter to the editor to the website. Print me a copy for credit.
