    DAY D
  • HW # 17 DUE
  • Today's class was... a challenge. I want to thank the handful of you who were prepared. I really appreciate that commitment!
  • Expectations for managing absences: two things happen daily: work in class and some light work at home. Please be aware to stay as up to date as possible (and not forget the class because you are absent). Please pick up papers from the door folder (or even get a friend to take a photo of the guides so you can re-create them), be aware that you have three days to make up missed quizzes on your own time, and complete readings. The only way to learn this material is through stages: reading, writing, re-thinking, and reviewing. I do sincerely appreciate your efforts!
  • Today's Goal: review The Trojan War (185-200); a nice way to reivew the material is to look for scenes as depicted in art. Try our ArtStor database through our library link.
  • Who's Who in the Trojan War [this study guide table format is a supplement to the outline; pick up in door if you were absent]
  • There will be a quiz tomorrow on 185-200
  • 4
    DAY E
  • Quiz on Trojan War (185-200

Write a 5-10 line Found Poem that illustrates the sentiments of the Chorus. [A Found Poem finds words and phrases from an existing text and sets them up in verse form for emphasis. Words may be omitted but not added.) 2. Find an image from the Internet that illustrates how Cassandra is feeling. Write a defense of the image using specifics from the text. 3. To whom is each Trojan woman given and for what purpose? Hecuba, Cassandra, Andromache, Polyxena 4. How is Talthybius characterized? Provide THREE descriptions and support with specifics from the text.

What kind of women are they? 2. Find an image from the Internet that best describes how Menelaus feels about Helen. Support the image with direct quotes and explanation. * Don't Google the obvious "Trojan Women Menelaus" -- rather, think figuratively. How does he feel? Why? 3. Helen provides Menelaus and the women with a defense for her actions. What are her eight points? 4. Hecuba refutes Helenís defense. What accusations does she make? 5. Hecuba has lost a great deal. She suffers immensely. Is she a tragic hero? Support or refute Aristotleís definition of a tragic hero. [A character of high or noble birth who is neither totally good nor totally bad. The character has a downfall due to some tragic flaw.]
