Creation Myths From Around the World

Working alone, in pairs, or threes, compare and contrast the myths you researched with the two we read as a class (Genesis and Theogeny).

YOUR GOAL: What observations can you make about creation myths from around the world? Use the answers from your worksheets to help teach the class your stories in a lively and easy-to-follow way. Each student must bring at least one of their myths from their research to the presentation.

Choose one of the following methods:

· Create a poster to use as a visual prop when you explain your findings.

· Create a skit that reenacts the stories. You may create props/name tags. Be sure to highlight similarities/differences in a fun way.

· Interpretive Dance. This could be fun. Really. Think about it.

· Other idea?

GUIDELINES:

• Be sure to give a basic plot summary overview of each of the stories you choose.
• Use the questions I gave you, but also keep your mind open. Did you observe anything else in the stories that are similar or vastly different? Make note of it!

• All presentations should be clear.
• Be sure to name the gods/characters.
• Consider how the myths compare and contrast to the Genesis/Adam and Eve story or the Greek Creation story we covered as a class. Do your stories resemble one more than the other? Find the common ground where it exists, but don’t ignore how they differ.
• Are there elements of the universe/culture explained in the story? (In other words, what is the etiological component?)
